What is the Caterpillar?
The Caterpillar is a Legendary pet added in the May 3, 2025 Animal Update. It appears as a short green caterpillar with eight dark green legs and a segmented green body.
Its passive effect, Leaf Lover, increases leafy plant growth speed by 2.42x, helping you harvest crops like Corn, Eggplant, Grape, and Pepper much faster.
How to Get the Caterpillar
You can obtain the Caterpillar by hatching a Bug Egg, which costs 50,000,000 Sheckles at the Pet Eggs stand. However, the Bug Egg is extremely rare with only a 3% chance of appearing.
Alternatively, you can purchase an Exotic Bug Egg from the in-game shop for 199 Robux, which increases your odds slightly.
- Bug Egg hatch chance: 25% for Caterpillar
- Exotic Bug Egg hatch chance: 25%
- Hatch time: ~8 hours (Bug Egg) or 30 seconds (Exotic Bug Egg)
Is the Caterpillar Worth It?
The Caterpillar is useful if you plant many leafy crops, as it significantly speeds up their growth. However, its benefit is limited to plants grown directly from seeds, and identifying leafy crops can sometimes be tricky.
Still, its Legendary rarity makes it a valuable addition to any farm focused on maximizing harvest efficiency.
Leafy Crops Boosted by Caterpillar
- Corn: 1,300 Sheckles (Seed Shop)
- Eggplant: 8.735% chance (Basic Seed Pack), 16% chance (Premium Seed Pack)
- Grape: 850,000 Sheckles (Seed Shop)
- Pepper: 1,000,000 Sheckles (Seed Shop)
Final Thoughts
If you’re aiming to optimize leafy crop production in Grow a Garden, the Caterpillar is an excellent pet to invest in. Just be prepared for the time and resources needed to hatch one from a Bug Egg.
